Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 Solar Connector Pair 4-6mm² 1500V | Original MC4

The Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 is the original MC4 connector, made for 4mm² and 6mm² solar PV cable and rated to 1500V DC and up to 53A. This male and female pair uses Stäubli's MULTILAM contact technology, keeping contact resistance low and stable through years on a roof or ground-mounted array. Why the original matters

Most of the power your panels produce passes through connectors at some point, and those connectors sit under modules and on rooftops for decades of heat, frost and UV. A poorly made or badly crimped connector can develop rising resistance over time, and that means heat, power loss, and in the worst case a melted joint that's expensive to trace once the roof is finished. Paying for the original connector at install time costs very little compared with tracking down a failed joint later.

MC4 is Stäubli's own system, and the Evo 2 uses MULTILAM contacts: spring-loaded louvres that keep multiple points pressed against the pin so resistance stays low through thermal cycling. Contacts are tin-plated copper, and the housing is UL94-V0 rated PA.

Applications

Use this pair for solar panel string connections, making up PV extension leads on 4mm² or 6mm² cable, connecting strings to inverters, charge controllers and combiner boxes, or replacing damaged or non-original connectors on an existing array. Suitable for residential, commercial and ground-mounted PV systems up to 1500V DC.

Installation and safety notes

Fitting should be carried out by a qualified solar installer or electrician. Crimp the contacts with the tool Stäubli specifies for this contact size, following assembly instructions MA298 from staubli.com. Check your cable's outer diameter suits the connector's cable gland, since an incorrect crimp or a loose gland compromises both the electrical joint and the IP rating.

Never connect or disconnect under load. Isolate the DC circuit with a suitable DC isolator before working on a string. Mate only with connectors from the Stäubli MC4 family, as mixing brands falls outside Stäubli's certification. Unmated connectors are IP2X only, so fit sealing caps on any left exposed outdoors. The complete installation must use correctly sized cable, suitable overcurrent protection, isolation and surge protection, and comply with BS 7671 and local regulations.
